Our next class project is to illustrate a narrative of your choice, either as a storyboard, a multiple-page story, or an illustrated motion gif.
The page-based narrative will be comprised of six sequential pages or a two-page cartoon spread with at least ten panels. If is is motion or video-based, it will be between 5 to15 seconds in length.
If it is a storyboard, it can illustrate a longer story, but must constitute at least 12 panels to communicate the entire narrative. The storyboard can be based upon an existing movie if you wish.
The first step in the project is to choose a story or narrative—a set of instructions, a nursery rhyme (maybe a poem or song)i—you are interested in.
If you are including text in your final story and/or storyboard, it should not constitute more than twelve words or two sentences per page, for a total of 72 words or 12 sentences.
The scheduled due date for the final narrative illustration will be Tuesday, November 20th.
Choose your story, write the text and post it along with a project brief on your blog no later than the end of class, Tuesday, October 23rd.
The second step will be to research the project—create a word list and/or spider diagram, an image board, and envision the illustrated story through a series of quick thumbnail concept sketches either in a six-page book format, a two-page ten-panel cartoon format, or a 12-panel storyboard format.
These are due on your blog the beginning of class, Thursday, October 25th.
A full-size printed dummy of your graphic novel spread or book, or a digital mockup of your GIF is due the beginning of class, Tuesday, November 13th.
The final illustration will be due printed and ready for presentation the beginning of class, Tuesday November 20th.
